Senior Design Engineer

Continental Global Material Handling LLC has an opening for Senior Design Engineer at its facility at 438 Industrial Drive, Winfield, Alabama 35594. The Senior Design Engineer will perform the following job duties: lead the design and development of new products, machines, and components for custom material handling equipment; ascertain and establish the design requirements for new product applications; meet with customers in the field to gather and discuss the design traits and requirements for new products; research competitive designs; establish design standards for new products being developed; perform design analysis for components to properly size and produce the components for the product application; create 3D CAD models; create general arrangement and detailed 2D drawings; complete bills of material; evaluate, specify, and implement design changes; and evaluate, identify, and execute cost reductions for products.

The position requires travel approximately once per month (for two to three days at a time) to visit customers to gather and discuss new product design requirements at customer locations throughout the United States.

The Senior Design Engineer must have a bachelor’s, or higher, degree (or a foreign educational equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering and at least ten years (120 months) of employment experience in the position of Senior Design Engineer, Design Engineer, Project Leader, or similar engineering design position. The required ten years of employment experience must have involved the performance of mechanical engineering design and must have included at least five years of experience with the design of material handling equipment.

The Senior Design Engineer must also have some experience with all of the following: creating detailed 3D CAD designs/models in Autodesk Inventor; using Autodesk Vault CAD data management software; creating designs and drawings using AutoCAD; conducting Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using ANSYS software; serving as Project lead and using Microsoft Project planning software; performing geometric dimensioning and tolerancing; checking drawings; conducting failure analysis; utilizing manufacturing best practices; studying customer requirements; modifying existing designs and creating new designs; performing work with materials metallurgy for selection of materials; performing design validations; conducting weight optimizations; and programming using Microsoft Excel Visual basic software.
